WLED FAQ

( Unofficial documentation/FAQ)
  • How can I make the WLED set a specific color or play a specific effect on startup?
  • What is "mapping"?
  • Does WLED support 2D (LED matrices)?

Yes. 2D support was first introduced in Sound Reactive WLED and then implemented and significantly improved in standard WLED version 0.14.0. This status is described here.
To set the 2D LED matrix, go to "Config" -> "2D Configuration". Here you can define the number of physical panels that together form a matrix. In the simplest case, the matrix consists of one single panel.
You set the properties for each panel: position of the first LED, orientation, number of LEDs in the X and Y directions. Don't forget to set the LEDs correctly under "Config" -> "LED Preferences": the total number of LEDs, GPIO etc.

If you have set everything correctly, 2D effects can be used. You can also display simple images on LED matrices using WLED (see next question).

  • Can you display an image on an LED matrix with WLED?
  • Can you display scrolling text on a matrix with WLED?
